Today, the European Parliament Intergroup on Children’s Rights took action to strongly condemn the infamous chemical attacks in Idlib, in Syria, which left at least 11 children dead.

MEPs from different political groups and nationalities joined during Plenary session in Strasburg to demonstrate their outrage, supporting the Intergroup campaign: #EndViolence against #ChildrenOfSyria

MEP Anna Maria Corazza Bildt, Co-Chair of the Intergroup said: “We cannot be silent and turn our back to this unfolding massacre. Using Chemical weapons against innocent kids is the most atrocious crime: there are no words strong enough to denounce it and those responsible must be held accountable! We call on the International community to ensure the protection of children in Syria”

According to UNICEF the violence has escalated over the last weeks and more than 280,000 children are trapped under siege, almost with no access to humanitarian aid and basic services. With the gas attack, humanity died in Syria.

MEP Caterina Chinnici, Co-Chair of the Intergroup, said “Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict children have been paying the highest price for a war they are not responsible for. It is crucial to step up action to make sure that emergency aid reaches Syrian population”.

“As the Conference on Syria is held in Brussels today, donors should increase humanitarian aid. We call on the High Representative Federica Mogherini and all EU leaders to show unity and resolve in restoring the political  process, support the United Nations and ensure that the EU plays an active role in the negotiations to put an end to the war in Syria” concluded Anna Maria Corazza Bildt MEP.
